Quick answer: Your fridge model number is on the rating or compliance plate. Look inside the fridge compartment on a side wall or near the top, on the back of the fridge, or behind the front grille. Take a photo of the label, then photograph the old part and send both for a parts check.
Where to find the model number
| Place | What to do |
|---|---|
| Inside the fridge compartment | Check the side wall and the area near the top. Move the shelves if needed |
| Back of the fridge | Look for a metal or paper plate near the compressor or on the back panel. Switch the fridge off and pull it out carefully |
| Behind the front grille | Look behind the kickplate or grille at the bottom front |
The plate shows the brand, the model number and the serial number. Photograph it with your phone so you have a clear copy. Model numbers often begin with letters, for example E or N on many Fisher & Paykel fridges, or RS and RJ on many Westinghouse fridges.
Model number, part number and serial number
| Number | What it identifies | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Model number | The whole fridge | RS643V |
| Part number | One part inside it | RF153 defrost heater |
| Serial number | Your individual fridge | Usually not needed for a parts check |
Read the markings on the old part
The old part often tells you more than the label. Look for these details:
- Defrost heater: part number, wattage and length, for example 450W and 520mm.
- Fan motor: power in watts, voltage, speed and rotation direction, for example 5W, 240V.
- Timer or thermostat: the printed part numbers, for example RJ390P or SL5708.
- Controller: the brand and model on the front, and the size of the opening it sits in.
What to send us for a parts check
- The brand and model number from the rating plate.
- A clear photo of the label.
- A photo of the old part showing its markings.
- A photo of the wiring if it is an electrical part, taken before you disconnect anything.
- The symptom, for example ice on the freezer back wall.
Send these through Find Your Part. We reply before you pay, so you do not order the wrong part.
If the label is missing or unreadable
Check the manual or your purchase paperwork. If you cannot find the model, send clear photos of the fridge, the old part and any markings on it. Match the old part's wattage, length and mounting before you order.

Fridge model number FAQs
Where is the model number on a fridge?
Look for the rating or compliance plate. It is usually inside the fridge compartment on a side wall or near the top, on the back of the fridge, or behind the front grille. The label shows the brand, model and serial number.
What is the difference between a model number and a part number?
The model number identifies the whole fridge. A part number identifies one part, such as a heater element or timer. We can check fit from either, but the model number plus a photo of the old part is the safest combination.
What if the label is missing or unreadable?
Check the manual or your purchase paperwork for the model. If you still cannot find it, send us clear photos of the fridge, the old part and any markings on it, and we will help you match the part.
Do I need the serial number?
Usually not. The model number and a photo of the old part are what we need. Keep the serial number handy in case a technician asks for it.
What should I send you to check a part?
Send the brand, the model number, a photo of the old part showing its markings, and a photo of the wiring if it is an electrical part. Use the Find Your Part form on our site.
Which brands do you cover?
We stock replacement parts for Westinghouse, Kelvinator and Fisher & Paykel defrost parts, universal fan motors, and commercial refrigeration parts. We do not list LG or Samsung parts yet. Send your model number and we will say if we can help.
